2005 AAU Junior Olympics - New Orleans, LA
Morial Convention Center (in the heart of downtown at the Riverwalk)
Dates:
July 30th - Aug. 2nd are dates we will be playing.
We ask that
everyone makes plans to arrive on July 29th (at a decent hour) and plan their
departure on August 3rd since we don't know the exact game schedules (and won't
until probably 7-10 days prior to the event).
It is key that all players be in
New Orleans, rested, and ready to play by the morning of the 30th. At the other
end of the event, we don't know what time the last 12U game might be on the 2nd.
To be safe we are asking people to plan on flying back on the 3rd.
Tournament Entry Fee: $725
$70 per player will be collected for this tournament at the first time we meet after the West Coast Championships.
Hotels:
Visit the following link: http://www.cchl.org/aau/ to get a complete
listing of the hotels avaliable. The Jr. Olympics host many other sports other
than hockey, and they all take place within the down town New Orleans area.
Rooms are selling out fast!!!
Air Transportation:
Airfares have been jumping 10-25% every 2 weeks or so since
the middle of April. We recomend you do not procastinate in booking your
flights. If you search hard, you can still find some decent rates. Southwest
and America West are both still reasonable.
Groud transportation:
This
might not be necesarry for you, when booking a hotel, ask
if the hotel is withing "easy" walking distance to the convention center. Ask
if there is a shuttle bus to the hotel from the airport as well. The word from
the AAU is these hotels charge something in the neighborhood of $10-$25 a day
in parking, so not renting a car, using shuttle busses, walking to the rink
from near by hotels, and taking taxi's to anywhere beyond walking distance is
probably the more economical route. We have been told there is plenty of places
to eat, and things to do within walking distance of the convention center.
Other items needed:
- AAU membership. This should have been done through your AIHA organization. See your coach/team manager for your AAU #. If you didn't complete your AAU membership with your AIHA team, you must obtain a membership #. Go to: http://www.aausports.org/default.asp?a=pg_membership.htm and fill out the online form.
- Bring a certified Birth Certificate to the first practice and we will make a copy.
